 Pyongyang is the capital city  Pyongyang is also the largest city in North Korea  Located in the central part of North Korea  About 3,255,388 people lived there in 2008  The city is 1,233 square miles  Elevation average 89 feet above sea level

 During the winter it is normally cold and dry  Usually hot and humid in the summer  The Asian monsoon season dominates the summer time weather  Average low temperature: 13˚F  Average high temperature: 84˚F

 Thousands of Korean “volunteers” served in the Chinese People Liberation Army (PLA)  Japan ruled Korea  The Allies unilaterally decided to divide Korea  As a token of gratitude, between 50,000 to 70,000 Korean veterans that served in the PLA were sent back to their home land  The total citizens killed and wounded in the Korean War was 2.5 million

 Area: total 120,540 sq mi land 120,410 sq mi water 130 sq mi  Terrain: mostly hills and mountains seperated by deep narrow valleys. The costal plains are wide in the west and is discontinuous in the east.  Natural Recourses: coal, lead, tungsten, zinc, graphite, magnetite, iron, copper, gold, pyrites, salt, fluorspar, and hydropower
