Digital TV – 6 th channel >In re-planning as part of the digital dividend process we included additional capacity often referred to as the 6 th channel >At RadComms 2014, the Minister said “In the short term, to allow for this transition to MPEG-4, the Government intends to free up the spectrum known as the sixth channel to assist in the testing and migration to this more efficient technology.” >The remaining community TV stations are scheduled to vacate the 6 th channel upon expiry of their licences at the end of 2016 >The ACMA awaits proposals to make use of the 6 th channel and stands ready to assist where practicable.
