National Bureau for Drug Prevention , Warsaw

Legal basis National Bureau for Drug Prevention was created in 1993 by Ministry of Health in response to the worrying trends on the Polish drug scene that were taking place at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s.

Strategic aims of the National Bureau for Drug Prevention reducing the use of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances create the balanced policy towards drug phenomena, particularly in the field of drug demand reduction

Tasks of National Bureau initiating and conducting works on new legislative solutions serving the purpose of counteracting drug addiction, drafting the Programme for Counteracting Drug Addiction, initiating and adopting measures aimed at reducing the use of drugs, initiating and conducting research and epidemiological studies in the field of drug phenomena, monitorining the issue of NPS and management of Early Warning System (partner of EMCDDA) taking action aimed at raising quality of prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and reintegration programmes,

Tasks of National Bureau supporting and conducting training courses for occupational groups dealing with counteracting drug addiction, on behalf of the Minister of Health co-financing programmes of drug prevention and harm reduction related to the use of illicit drugs as well as programmes of social reintegration of drug addicted persons.

Additionally the Bureau: runs the secretariat of the Council for Counteracting Drug Addiction by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland through organizing sessions, preparing materials and recording proceedings of the Council and archiving the documentation; management of tasks resulting from the Gambling Act and Gambling Problem Fund
