A REPORT ON PRACTICAL TRAINING CONDUCTED AT PUBLIC WORK DEPARTMENT(PWD),KOTA FROM 15/6/2011 TO 14/7/2011 Submitted to: Mr. Rajneesh Sharma HOD {Civil Dep.} Submitted By : Mahesh Malav 2008UCE034

 NAME OF WORK :- Construction of Assembly hall  LOCATION & LAND :- The land is available on Digod.  SOURCE OF MATERIAL : Material required for construction Cement,Sand, Brick etc.  TYPE OF SOIL:- Soft soil is available.  ESTIMATED COST : LACS

INTRODUCTION OF ASSEMBLY HALL  “ A structure where persons meet for a program.”  It is a structure on land with a lawn & plants outside.  There are different room like changing rooms, stages & bathrooms etc.  It has flat roof, walls covered in brick windows and doors.

STEPS :- Site investigation Estimate Excavation Foundation construction Brick work Installation of windows and doors & ventilation Roofing Rough electrical & plumbing Plastering

EXCAVATION It is the process of digging out soil beneath the earth surface. Excavation depend on the type of soil.

FOUNDATION  Foundation is lower part of the building and directly contact with ground and which transmit the loads to the ground.  Generally raft foundation is used for “Assembly hall”.

CONSTRUCTION FOUNDATION WORK  SLAB – It is a concrete pad poured directly on the ground, having thickness of 4”- 6”.  FLOOR – It is used for the purpose of sub-dividation the portion between basement level and roof level.  WALLS – Most visible part of a building. The thickness of wall is 9” to 1’ 5”.

WINDOWS – It is a opening in wall that allows the passage of light & ventilation. DOORS – It is a moveable barrier used to cover and opening. VENTILATION – It means free passage of clean air & removal of vitiated in a structure.

PLUMBING & SANITATION– It involve the construction of bathroom & toilet with septic tank with pipeline. ROUGH ELECTRICAL – It involve the power distribution Grids and power supply to the structure. PLASTERING & PAINTING – It uses the ornamentation thick plastic covering on the surface of walls and ceiling.

FOUNDATION  Foundation is the lower part of the structure which are direct contact with the ground.  It is sub-structure which supports its super-structure.

 Types of foundation :- 1.Shallow Foundation  Pad or column footings (Isolated or Combined)  Strip footings  Trench footings  Slab on grade with thickened edge  Interior footings for bearing walls  Mat (Raft) footings (Thickened slabs)

2. Deep Foundations :- Pile foundation Pier Well or caissons

Purpose of foundation :-  To support the super-structure.  To distribute the total load coming on the structure on a large area.  To give lateral stabillity to the structure against various horizontal forces.  To distribute the non-uniform load of the super-structure evenly to the sub-soil.

SELECTION OF FOUNDATION :- The type of the foundation mainly depend upon the following things :-  TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION.  LOAD BEARING CAPACITY OF SOIL.

Generally, Raft foundation are used in Assembly hall (Public building), Office building, School building etc. Raft Foundation :- A raft Foundation is a combined footing that covers the entire area beneath a structure and support all the wall and column.
