The Sleepy Dancer By Korri Spruyt

There was once a little girl named Serenity who loved to play all day long. She loved to listen to music and sing, play dress up and read, but most of all, she loved to dance.

Serenity loved lots of different kinds of dance, too. She liked ballet, tap and jazz…

…but her favorite dance was the waltz.

While Serenity was dancing, Mom poked her head into the room and said, “Time for bed! You start getting ready, and I’ll be back in a few minutes to tuck you in.”

“Ok Mom!” Serenity replied. But there was a small problem. Serenity had never gotten ready for bed by herself before! So she thought about what Mom always did first, and said, “Oh! I remember now!

“Hmm, where are those PJ’s?” Serenity wondered as she dug through her closet. “Ah, found them!”

Serenity came dancing out in her favorite pajama’s and saw the mess she had made. “Woops,” she said. “Better clean up!”

After she put away all of her clothes, Serenity thought about what she needed to do next. “Hmm, what does Mom always tell me? Oh, I know!”

So Serenity heel-toed her way to the bathroom and began brushing her teeth.

And she brushed her hair.

Once she was finished, Serenity grabbed her favorite book, sat down in her favorite reading spot, and read while she waited for Mom.

“Oh good! You’re all ready for bed,” said Mom as she came into the room. “Time to tuck you in!”

Serenity quickly put away her book and crawled into bed. “Good night, Mom,” Serenity said. “Good night, Serenity. Sweet dreams,” Mom replied.

With that, Serenity began one-two- three-ing herself to sleep, and she dreamt of dancing all night long.
