Let’s analyze this cartoon together!  What elements of satire are present in the cartoon?  What is the implied message of the artist?  Is the cartoon effective in presenting the implied message?

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE 1. Find a partner. 2. Analyze the cartoon you were given by the teacher. Answer the questions in complete sentences on the handout. 3. When you’re done analyzing your cartoon, find two or three other pairs and compare your cartoon to their cartoon. On a piece of notebook paper, put your cartoons in order from lightly humorous to scathingly bitter and write down the purpose of each cartoon and how the cartoonist seeks to affect the reader’s perception of the subject. 4. Make sure both names are on the partner analysis handout and all group members’ names are on the notebook paper and turn both of them in.
