Business Intelligence Basics What is Business Intelligence ? That is very important when making business decision. Tools help to monitor – analyse – maintain.

I want to know when a key business indicator is at risk. I want to have focused discussions to drive metrics to “green.” I want my team to identify the root cause for metrics at risk. I want to ensure my team has access to the data they need to resolve issues, and expand the business If issues are found, the right team members should be “seamlessly” engaged. I want to know when to expect a “red” metric to trend towards “green.” Monitor Analyze Manage ? I want consistent and timely metrics and I don’t want to “guess.” All Information: Monitor – Analyze – Manage - Decision

BI Architecture & Software Prerequisites SharePoint Farm Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition (or later) Microsoft SharePoint 2013 Enterprise Edition (or later) SharePoint Online BI Application for SharePoint Online

Part 3: Demo Case Study Current System: eCommerce Online based on SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server Requirement: Develop a BI report or Dashboard to display sale data in shortest time. Solution must be a small & smart application with minimum cost.

Data organization in current system eCommerce Online System: This is a data model relationship based on SharePoint List. eCommerce Database This is a database relationship based on SQL Server 2012, and the same structure with data model by SharePoint List. eCommerce Data Warehouse This is a database data warehouse based on SQL Server 2012 that includes Dim Tables & Fact Tables.

Data Model Relationship

Steps by Steps 1.Synchronize data between Data Model (SharePoint List) and eCommerce Database (SQL Server). 2.Transfer data from eCommerce Database (SQL Server) to eCommerce Data Warehouse (SQL Server). 3.Develop SQL Server Analysis Service: Multi Dimensional or Tabular Model. (X) 4.Design Dashboard | Reports and display on SharePoint. (X)

Synchronize data by BCS  Verify Business Data Connectivity Service on SharePoint  Create External Content Type & External List.  Synchronize between Internal List & External List  Verify data after synchronization.  Demo.

Transfer data to Data Warehouse  Verify data on eCommerce database.  Verify data on eCommerce data warehouse.  Transfer & Transform data: from eCommerce database  eCommerce data warehouse.  Verify data in Data Warehouse.

Develop SSAS & Display Reports  Develop SSAS: Multi Dimensional or Tabular Model  Design Reports: Dashboard, Power View, Power Pivot….  Demo: design & publish a dashboard to SharePoint.

How a record is transferred in BI System?  Create a new record in Order Detail of eCommerce System.  Synchronize this record: eCommerce (SharePoint List )  eCommerce (database in SQL Server)  Transfer & Transform this record: eCommerce (database in SQL Server)  eCommerceDW (data warehouse in SQL Server)  Update Process of SSAS  Refresh dashboard. an new order  sharepoint list  normal database  data warehouse  SSAS  display on dashboard.
