Childcare Sufficiency Assessment The Childcare sufficiency Assessment allows us (the Local Authority) to identify any significant changes in the childcare market. We use the responses to assess any current and future needs in respect of childcare. We also need to consider housing developments, proposals for new childcare businesses and other factors that may affect the childcare market. We’d like to thank everyone who returned their CSA responses.

Childcare Sufficiency Assessment This is what we found out: The majority of parents and carers told us that they are satisfied with the childcare they use and that it is of high quality and value for money. A large number of providers offer flexible patterns of childcare including the stretched offer. The quality of provision has improved across all sectors. Childcare Sufficiency Assessment & 4 year olds, of which 4522 were funded for FEE (96.27%). 652 families returned their questionnaires. This was a return rate of 6.5% - which is an increase on last year. And they indicated that: They are very satisfied with the childcare they receive That their needs were being met and that of those that don’t use childcare, the cost is their main reason for not doing so. Since 2011, the number of 0-14’s has risen, but so too has the number of providers. The number of vacant childcare places currently available across the borough informs that there are currently sufficient places to meet demand. Next steps: We will consult with those parents who indicated they wanted follow up from the parent / carer questionnaire. Employers recommended that more flexible childcare be available – this is something that will be consulted on as part of the 30 hours funded childcare which will be discussed later on. We will work with providers in respect of delivering the 30 hours free early education. We are working towards a digital version of the questionnaire for the next CSA

Interim headcount – Closed on Wednesday 4 th May Please note, at interim we only require the estimated numbers of hours for the full term, please do not submit your actuals All providers have submitted their interim estimates Free Early Education – Summer Term 2016 Final headcount Final headcount submission period opens on Friday 20 th May and closes on Friday 10 th June – this has changed from the initial dates sent to you at the start of the term due to unknown system upgrades. Please contact the team before the deadline day if you are having any issues. The provider portal is being upgraded on the 18 th and 19 th May – please do not access the portal on those days as it could delay the process. The upgrade will have no impact on how the portal looks and how you use it but providers will now receive an notification when an interim or final headcount is submitted.

Free Early Education Calendar 2016/2017

Two year old Free Early Education Currently there are 1172 eligible two year olds in the borough. Of these 1172, 1032 applications have been approved. Of the approved applications, there are 162 two year olds that haven’t taken up a place in a setting. The map shows indicative locations of these 162 two year olds in comparison to childcare settings.

Early Years Pupil Premium A year long DfE funded project to support the introduction of Early Years Pupil Premium was undertaken and is now coming to an end. A Practical Guide to allocating EYPP has been produced now from the findings of the project. It looks at areas you might like to look at when making your decisions about how the funding will be spent. There is also a suggestion for taking a step by step approach to spending the funding. It can be found on the downloads section of the Early Education website. (

We are currently in the process of sending out this years PSP spreadsheet for completion which are due in by Friday 1st July. This data is essential in helping us analyse certain trends in various areas of the borough. Collection of PSP Data
