Class Description The history of the whole world in all places in all times… as best we can Not just about dates and people: –cause and effect –why the world is the way it is –connects to every subject

Class Outline Review (6 days) Renaissance, Revolution, and Reformation (8 days) Americas (6 days) Asia and Absolutism (9 days) Enlightenment to Napoleon (8 days) Industrial Revolution (6 days) Imperialism and Nationalism (9 days) WWI and Interwar (9 days) WWII and Cold War (10 days) Modern Themes (3 days)

Tests All assessments will be announced beforehand and written on the board Given about every two weeks Mostly multiple choice (25-35 questions) Short answer (2-4 questions)

Quizzes Given about every 3-5 class days Multiple choice (10-20) Short answer (2 questions) Quiz corrections: You will be able to reflect on your mistakes and get extra credit (details later)

Assignments Examples of assignments: – Homework : worksheets, textbook reading, finding articles, essays – Classwork : worksheets, writing, activities, matching, warm-ups/tickets out – Glossary : Ongoing assignment of keeping track of class vocabulary – Participation : coming to class with questions, self-advocating, and able to answer questions – Extra credit : word of the day, quiz corrections

Warm-ups/Tickets out the Door Warm-ups will be completed in a warm- up section in your notebook (I will check as I walk around) Tickets Out will be completed on 3X5 cards and handed in at the end of class Cumulative grades will be entered into the gradebook periodically

Tools Three ring binder (not spiral): just for this class College ruled paper Writing utensil (if not- pencil of shame) 3X5 cards: for ticket out and flash cards 1 Ream of paper (keep at home): –you will need to print assignments/notes from home –Get a printing buddy or you owe me double paper

Being Prepared for Class Bring your own notebook, paper, pencil/pen, and textbook Have all assignments/notes printed When the bell rings, all students must be quietly sitting in their seats with their notebooks out and ready to do work Begin class by writing down the objective and starting your warm up

Notebooks You will need to put your class material in a binder notebook It is your responsibility to organize and date your notebook- it will be checked periodically Sections for notebook: –Warm-ups –Notes –Homework/Classwork –Quizzes –Glossary

Textbooks You will need to bring your textbook to class each day Before most lessons, you may be required to read a section of the textbook and be prepared for a short reading quiz/activity While reading a textbook section, you should take double-spaced notes and come to class with at least two questions Textbooks should be out and open during note taking so you can follow along and fully participate

Notes During class time, you will supplement your existing notes that you took while reading Note-taking time should be focused on questions- from me and from you After each day of notes (or at least before assessments) my notes will be posted on my website

Late Assignments The ultimate responsibility for mistakes in the gradebook is on you 10% penalty per day late with a maximum of 50% off your score If you hand in a late assignment write at the top: “Thank you for accepting this __ days late”

Absences Absences are your responsibility. Steps if you are going to be/were absent: 1.Plan in advance, especially if you are going to miss a quiz or test 2.Talk to another student 3.Go to the website 4.Check the tray at the back of the room 5.THEN talk to Mr. Hairgrove
