What is the greenhouse effect? 1.Damage to the ozone layer 2.Too many greenhouse gases being emitted causing global warming 3.A natural process where heat from the sun is absorbed by greenhouse gasses

LO: What can be done to reduce CO2 emissions? Is renewable energy a realistic alternative to Fossil Fuels?

“UK government has pledged to reduce their country’s CO2 emissions by the year 2050 to just 20% of the 1990 levels (i.e. 80% reduction)” But how can they achieve this? Pairwork: brainstorm as many ideas as you can (i.e. wind power, electric cars etc..)

Group and rank them into: Reducing current energy demands Alternative energy

You have the next 10 mins to see if you can reach the target – who can reach it the fastest?

Did you manage to reach the 20% 2050 target? Q: What was the key to successfully reaching the 20% goal? Q: How different would your home/city/countryside look compared today? Q: can you predict any problems/issues with your solution?

On your table you need to research the following sources of energy Wind Power Solar power energyhttp:// energy Tidal power Bio fuel html?iref=newssearch html?iref=newssearch Geothermal energy-uk-power energy-uk-power Wood fuel lunacy-europe-fuel-future lunacy-europe-fuel-future

Create a table like this and share with your group How does it work/ picture AdvantagesDisadvantagesExample where its already being used Public opinion: Blog quotes supporting/ critising

Copy and paste your groups information into shared google doc. Discussion Q: Which of the renewable energy types would seem most suitable for Hong Kong?

Hong Kong’s current electricity

Q: How can Hong Kong significantly reduce its CO2 emissions over the next 20 years? Create a mind-map that shows what action could be taken and the advantage /disadvantages to Hong Kong In your opinion which of these solution are the most suitable? Ext: write a to the “Hong Kong Minister for Energy” briefly describing and explaining how the government can significantly reduce HK carbon footprint.
