Use the language of probability. To express probability as a fraction.

What is the probability of the following events happening and why? It snowing tomorrow? You winning the lottery this weekend? You watching T.V tonight? It being your 30 th birthday tomorrow?

Can you think of any events which are equally likely to happen?

How about…..? If you toss a coin you have an equal chance of getting a head or a tail. If a baby is born it has an equal chance of being a boy or a girl. If you roll a dice you have an equal chance of getting the number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6!

1.In your book draw a circle with a radius of 5cm. 2.Use a protractor to divide the circle into 6 equal sections. 3.Use a ruler to join the sections together where they meet the edge of the circle. 4.Rub out the remaining circle lines. You should have a spinner!

Now write the numbers 1, 2 or 3 in the sections of your spinner. Write 5 statements about your spinner that show that you can use the language of probability or express probability as a fraction.

Swap books with your partner. Write a comment about how well you think they’ve met today’s learning objective. Explain why you think this. Use the language of probability. To express probability as a fraction.
