Astrophysics Fellowships Fellowships aligned with Astrophysics Division Science Themes. Solicit proposals with Physics of the Cosmos, Exoplanet Exploration, or Cosmic Origins science as focus rather than mission specific. Management by existing fellowship organizations. Sagan fellows: Exoplanet Exploration program office, JPL Einstein fellows: Chandra X-ray Center Hubble fellows: STScI Stipend (all new fellows): $60,500 Identical Deadline for Applications: (most recent round) Einstein Fellows: 156 applicants, 10 selections Sagan Fellows: 51 applicants, 5 selections Hubble Fellows: 237 applicants, 17 selections For more information see: Sagan: Einstein: Hubble : 2

Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope Fermi collaboration: 6 countries, 22 institutions, and 400+ members. DOE and NASA collaboration. 2 instruments: LAT (20 MeV to 300 GeV) GBM (8 keV to 30 MeV) 20% of the sky at any instant and all parts of sky in 30 minutes every 3 hours in survey mode. 3 Launch June 11, 2008 from Cap Canaveral.

4 Fermi’s Gamma-ray Sky

Kepler Goes Keplerian! Earth-trailing heliocentric orbit. All flight segment components were in expected temperature ranges and the solar array is pointed at the sun. The solid state recorder has been initialized. Calibration of the course sun sensors and power-up of the photometer will be included in the next steps. 60 day commissioning phase detector will be characterized photometer performance verified. Normal science operations: June 18, Launch March 6, 2009 from Cape Canaveral.

JWST News ISIM Critical Design Review this week Instrument Engineering Test Units delivered to GSFC later this year All flight detectors in hand Primary Mirror segments more than 50% through processing steps, in cryogenic testing STScI developing plans for increased community interaction/input 6
