Waste Management  Added benefit to extension proposal Cook County Department of Environment  Provided $10,100 to purchase under-sink kitchen pails and BioBags Delta Institute  Working with Cook County on demonstration projects GLAD compostable bags  Provided 500 boxes of pail liners  Partnered with local organizations; Seven Generations Ahead, Southeast Oak Park Co-Op, Green Community Connections  1,200 direct mail and 3 Forums in target area

 Receive a 96-gallon cart for WM collections (triple the capacity of current yardwaste program)  Receive an “under-the-sink” container  Receive a box of compostable BioBags  Will not need to purchase yardwaste bags or stickers  Weekly collection on Friday April – November  Winter collections bi-weekly schedule  Voluntary subscription is $14 per month – about the cost of 1 yardwaste sticker ($2.40 each) and bag per week  Participants receive monthly updates and announcements  Do you compost or mulch grass clippings? Consider sharing the cart and cost with neighbors

 Refuse service $21.38 (96-gal)  Plus yd. sticker per week = $33.76 OR  Plus Organics cart $35.38 SHARE SERVICE (96-gal) = $17.69 per hh per mo Each save $3.69 per month over current refuse service. Share 64-gal refuse & Organics cart = $16.05 (savings of $2.05/mo)

 Over 700 Households  9 Elementary Schools  3 Churches  Farmers’ Market  Food Pantry  2 Parks  SGA MicroBrew  911 Lemonade Fundraiser  2,000 attendees  Diverted 84.4% waste  Hatch Harvest Dinner  450 attendees  1/3 bag to landfill

 What happens to the composting we send to Land & Lakes?  What about Backyard composting?  Why is it better to compost than throw it away?  Can we get compost?  Will we have to add a truck?  Are there other benefits to this program?
