Finally, if you have any suggestions of how to add/improve features of your car to create a hassle free driving experience please comment below: Satnav which reroutes around traffic jams. Inbuilt display that warns when tax/mot/insurance is due. Would be useful to have more inbuilt sat nav features as having it on the windscreen means it sometimes falls off. As nearly all of us use smart phones - and most new cars have Bluetooth - a better attachment that we could easily clip in and clip out for our phones would be good More user friendly and easier linking of Mobile phone, to car entertainment systems. More helpful and easily controllable gadgets as standard to aid parking, reversing, elimination of blind spots, urban and motorway driving. VDUnit to show fuel economy and driving efficiency with suggestions for personal improvement. Intelligent warning devices which feedback possible problems in terms of cars performance. There should be built in sat nav sections which are universal and fit every type of sat nav for the safety and convenience for drivers and passengers.

Car Displays

Human Behaviour Analysis 10 & 2 Position Middle section will stay upright Keep both hands on the wheel Two million motorists have had an accident or near miss when driving with just one hand on the wheel

A study from the University of Toronto led by Ian Spence suggests that HUDs might actually have the opposite effect and can even be a threat to safety. “Loss of accuracy and increase in reaction times in attending to the external information" and that drivers could even end up paying less attention to visual threats in the real world as opposed to the ones being displayed virtually. (CarsTechnicaUK, 2015) Trends "Just 39% of consumers now have a satnav in their home, down from 46% some 18 months ago.“ (Paul Davies, BBC, 2015)

I have decided to go with the display system. This originally was based around the Sat Nav however through further research I intend to incorporate different features on the dashboard to create the hassle free driving experience. The main aim is to reduce distraction while driving to improve safety for drivers, passenger and pedestrians. By the use of gestures or controls on the wheel it will allow the driver to control the display while still focusing on the environment around them. Design Brief
