JESUS’ 4 FOLD RESURRECTION MESSAGE

Four-Fold Message of the Resurrection 1.) DO NOT BE AFRAID: We hear Jesus say to his followers “Peace be with you”. Jesus is giving a message of re-assurance and peace. 2.) I AM WITH YOU: Jesus gives messages of support, of not abandoning His followers now that his earthly life has ended.

Four-Fold Message of the Resurrection 3.) TELL THE OTHERS: Jesus urges those who meet him to spread the word that He has risen and to take that risk even if others do not believe. 4.) CONTINUE MY WORK: Jesus asks that His followers devote their lives to continuing His work of bringing people into a right relationship with God and each other.

Four-Fold Message of the Resurrection JOHN 20: 11-18: Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene SUMMARY: During this encounter Mary was concerned that someone had taken Jesus’ body. When Jesus appeared to her, He told her not to be troubled, and Mary then called Jesus Rabbouni/Teacher. Characters: Angels, Mary Magdalene, Jesus

Four-Fold Message of the Resurrection Which message is it? John 20:19-30 Matthew 28:16-20 Luke 24:36-49 John 21: 15-19

4 Fold Resurrection Message 1.) John 20:19-30 (Do Not be Afraid) In this passage, Jesus appears to His disciples in a locked upper room (they were fearful that the authorities would crucify them as well). Jesus said “Peace be with you; I am sending you” to calm their fears. The Characters Involved Are: Thomas, Jesus, 10 Apostles, Mary (Jesus’ Mother)

4 Fold Resurrection Message 2.) Matthew 28:16-20 (I Am With You) Jesus told the apostles to “Make disciples of all nations” and to baptize them. Jesus knew this would be difficult work, so he assures them that His spirit will be with them for support when they need it. The Characters Involved Are: Jesus, 11 Apostles

4 Fold Resurrection Message 3.) Luke 24:36-49 (Tell the Others) In this passage, Jesus tries to convince His followers to see for themselves that He did indeed rise from the dead. He wants them to share this with others “That Jesus is the saviour who was promised to them.” The characters involved are: Jesus, 11 Apostles.

4 Fold Resurrection Message 4.) John 21:15-20 (Continue My Work) Jesus asks Peter if he loves Him three times (this is to counter act Peter’s three fold denial of Jesus before the crucifixion). Peter is commanded to feed the sheep; in other words to continue the work of Jesus who is the good shepherd who looked after His followers. The characters involved are: Jesus, Simon Peter.
