William Shakespeare

The most famous English playwright and poet who wrote the well-known plays Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet was born and died in April. We don´t know much about William Shakespeare. He was born in Stratford upon Avon. We don´t know the date of his birthday. Experts believe that it was 23 April. His father was a businessman. William had three brothers and four sisters. He often went to the church on the banks of the Avon where he is buried now. Experts believe that Shakespeare went to an elementary school in Stratford and later worked as a teacher. When he was 18 he married Anne Hathway who was older. They had two daughters and a son. We don´t know much about what he did after he was married. He went to London and worked at the Globe Theatre. He wrote poems and plays.

The theatre was popular at that time. Shakespeare joined The Lord Chamberlain´s Men (later the King´s Men). He wrote his plays for this theatre group. They often performed for the king. They performed at the Globe Theatre. Shakespeare was an actor, too. We don´t know exactly when William Shakespeare died, but experts believe that it was on 23 April We don´t know how he died. Most of Shakespeare´s works were published after his death. He wrote 38 plays, 154 sonnets, and several poems. You can read his works in almost every language. William Shakespeare is called “England´s national poet“.

At a ball, Romeo and Juliet fell in love. They met on Juliet´s balcony and secretly got married the next day. They hoped their families would stop fighting. She drank it and looked dead. Friar sent a message to Romeo about this but Romeo didn´t get it. Juliet was buried in the crypt. Romeo believed that she was dead. He came to the crypt and drank some poison. He died. When Juliet awakened she saw the dead Romeo. She killed herself with Romeo´s knife. The Montagues and Capulets met in the crypt and found them.
