Definitions Definition: The IVOA Registry will allow an astronomer to be able to locate, get details of, and make use of, any resource located anywhere in the IVO space, i.e. in any Virtual Observatory. The IVOA will define the protocols and standards whereby different registry services are able to interoperate and thereby realise this goal. Publishing Registry – A Registry that holds xml resources managed by your authority id’s. And is harvestable by Full Registries. Does not require a Query interface, but typically has one. Full Registry - A Registry that holds all xml Resources. Has a Query and a Harvest Interface. Reference:

Resource Types All Services can have various capabilities. Two most noted are SIA and ConeSearch. Data/Tabular type resources all can define Coverage info. Resource CeaApplication Service CeaService TableService DataService CatalogService DataCollection TabularDB

Future Work Harvesting Services Not just Registries. ValidationLevel in the schema but not handled in the Astrogrid Registry. Xforms at the Service level. Could that be the END? Just Maybe.

Install Download from: Change name to {something}.war, for this example astrogrid-registry.war Copy/Move it into the tomcat/webapps directory. Go to

Changing properties Click on Change/Edit Properties in the menu. Then click on the first link to change properties. Change the authorityid value from ‘org.changethis’ to radionet.workshop. And the restrictip addresses to your ip address will use it later. (Will briefly go through some of the other properties together.)

Self Registration and Indexes Go to (Amin other tasks) in the menu; and click on the first link to add indexes. Go ahead and submit new indexes. Back to admin/index.jsp Click on the 2 nd link to self register and fill out the text boxes. If you ever need help you can open up “Resource Help” in the menu (probably in a separate window/tab)

Browse/Admin/WebDav Click on Browse, feel free to Edit. Click on the last link in the menu ‘DB client and WebDav’ There you will see a ‘Launch’ image this will start a webstart for your database. By Default username for the eXist db is admin with no password. Check out the eXist Client. And also check out the link for information about ‘WebDav’ on the ‘Db Client an WebDav’ page. PAUSE
