Next Week:Should the summer holidays be shorter to allow for more holidays during the rest of the year? Class 3 have had an unforgettable week! The Year sixes spent a day with in their new secondary schools on Wednesday- which they all enjoyed. The Year 5’s spent the day with our new teacher: Mrs Ruth Colley. Mrs Colley thanked the class for making her feel welcome – she is looking forward to working with us next year. This week has been very busy! We welcomed the nursery children into our class on Wednesday and they had a lovely day with us. We enjoyed being Year 1s and 2s for the day, we felt very grown up! We have continued our work on fantasy settings and have written postcards from a particular place to tell everyone what it is like there. Today we say goodbye to Miss Broomfield. We have enjoyed having her as a member of class 2 and wish her good luck for her future. We have been busy on our Olympic topic this week. We have researched athletes from around the world to find out their personal achievements and their aspirations. We have also designed our own Olympic torches

Farm Visit You will recall that KS2 pupils had a visit to a farm on the 14 th June and we have managed to get into the Whitehaven News – take time to have a look at our photograph on page 9. Just Talk…. We are hoping to develop thinking, speaking, listening and writing skills by encouraging more talk, in and out of school. Every week the children will be given a talk-topic during Monday’s assembly, which they will be encouraged to discuss with those in school during playtimes and lunchtimes. Pupils will be encouraged to discuss the topic with anyone else they want to, outside school. To ask their parents, neighbours, local shop-keepers, brownie leaders and anyone and everyone. The idea is that the children learn how adults form arguments, how they organise their ideas. Moreover the children will learn that people have a variety of opinions, values and beliefs. This will help them to find their own opinions and increase their confidence when expressing themselves.
