COUNTRIES OF SOUTH ASIA 1. BANGLADESH 2. BHUTAN. 3. INDIA. 4. MALDIVES. 5. NEPAL. 6. PAKISTAN. 7. SRILANKA. AND AFGHANISTAN.

POPULATION Total Population of South Asia is 23% of the total population of the world. BANGLADESH—156,050,883- female 50% BHUTAN female 45% INDIA—1,027,015,247 female 52% MALDIVES—396,334- female 41% NEPAL , female 49% PAKISTAN— – female 51% AFGHANISTAN- 28, female 50%

HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX All countries of South Asia have low ranking on the Human Development Index as per HDI report , Sri lanka (99) the Maldeives (100) India (128) Bhutan(133) Pakistan(136) Bangladesh(140) and Nepal(142) This ranking on achievements in term of expectancy, education and real income. Low ranking of HDI shows poorly.

POVERTY 30% regional population is living below poverty line. Among the poor, it is women. High level of poverty found among female who head the household

POLITICAL SITUATION Bhutan recently has been experimented of democracy under the control of royal, India is dominating in South Asia by its democracy, India is carrying out regular elections to state and national assemblies. After civil war in Nepal the Maoists abolished the monarchy and formed elected government. But there are some political conflicts still exist in the country. In February 2008, Pakistan reverted to democracy after eight years of military Dictatorship. In Bangladesh there is democracy. Sri lanka is governed by the elected government.

GOOD GOVERNESS Elections do not necessarily produce good governance and the peaceful resolution of political conflicts in a country and it is clear that we need to address the social, economic issues in cultural and historical context.

VIOLENCE Most of the countries of South Asia are facing following violence. 1.Political conflicts. 2.Ethnic violence. 3.Religious violence. 4.Military attacks.

NUCLEAR POWER INDIA and Pakistan are nuclear power state They have large military strength. All regional countries are spending big amount of their National budget military, India-2.5% Pakistan-4%, Sri Lanka-2.6%, Bangladesh-1.5

ECONOMICAL SITUATION PROFESSIONS Most of the people are Peasants on Agriculture lands Fishing Industrial workers House hold workers Domestic workers Home Based workers. Hawkers.

STATUS OF WOMEN IN SOUTH ASIA Social, cultural, political and economic conditions of the countries of South Asia show the same status of women. there are strong patriarchal values that prevent women from getting their rightful place in the society. the constitutions of South Asian countries have granted women equal rights with men. The patriarchal attitude create discrimination between men and women in several ways. Women are living in the society which are highly influenced by traditions, ideology and customs that keep them away from equality. Women from marginalized community suffer more, especially the dalits

UNEMPLOYMENT RATES IN WOMEN BHUTAN percent in urban areas and 42.2 percent rural areas. women unemployment rate in Bangladesh is lower in urban areas than rural areas. Women in Sri Lanka face unemployment which is nearly double that of men percent in female According to the labour force survey of 2001 the unemployment rate for females remained at 11.6 unemployed high in educated women.
