 MTP kit is used to terminate early pregnancy upto 63 days of gestation period. It is highly successful in performing its activity. It works by the working of two kinds of pills which are – mifepristone and misoprostol. It contains total number of five pills- 1 tablet of mifepristone in strength of 200mg and four tablets of misoprostol of strength 800 mcg.  Mifepristone is taken orally to inhibit the action of progesterone which is a vital hormone to precede the proper growth of fetus and embryo inside mother’s womb. Mifepristone acts as anti progesterone hormone and competitively binds to the progesterone receptors.

 A woman is advised to remove all intrauterine devices before starting therapy with MTP kit.  Initially at the first day, a pill of mifepristone is taken orally. After three days, four pills of misoprostol 800mcg should be used either orally or vaginally. Abortion will begin to occur after about four hours.  If abortion has not completed, two tablets of misoprostol should be taken vaginally as a second dose.  On fourteenth day, a woman must visit to the nearby doctor to confirm termination of pregnancy.  Doctor performs ultrasonographic scan and confirms the pregnancy termination.

 Do not use it to terminate ectopic pregnancy; it can result in damage of fallopian tubes.  It should not be used by the woman under 18 years of age.  If a female is taking any corticosteroid drug, do not use MTP KIT.

 A woman is advised to take complete bed rest after having abortion.  Avoid physical interaction with your partner for few days.  Try not to lift any heavy object for few days.  Follow healthy nutritious diet to recover weakness.
