How we help Plan as a team so we share good practise with each other Pitch our lessons well and ensure learning happens every lesson, every day Differentiate work so children are challenged at their level Help children who are stuck- we want to close gaps and stop barriers Help children who feel sad/worried- we need to be content to learn. Work as a team- we use lots of different professionals both in school and out. We speak to you if we have concerns.

How you can help your child. Sleep well (NHS recommends hours a night) Send them with a water bottle (Feeling thirsty can affect learning and memory function by 10%) Read every day- try to make it part of your routine. Be a role model for reading. Complete homework activities Help your child become independent- make sure they bring the correct things to school

Homework Following the Parent Questionnaires of June, we have looked carefully at our homework provision. We know you enjoy helping your child at home and we know that when home and school work together children’s attainment improves. We also are aware that the new National Curriculum expectations are challenging and want to reflect this in the children’s homework. Therefore we have adapted our homework provision.

Homework in year 2 Spelling- Spellings- The school is using a new progressive spelling program. Your child will receive a spelling activity weekly, which may include learning words, researching the history of words etc. If your child is still on the RWI progam Red words will be sent home half termly, whereas spellings will be sent home weekly. Spellings will be sent home on Friday Reading- children will receive their ditty books or a school reading book which will be changed during the school week. Books will be changed on Monday and Thursday. Maths- The children will be able to borrow maths games which reinforce basic skills the children need in these year groups. Please borrow a game and return it. Shared Learning Projects- once a half term, children will be set a project to complete at home based on the topic which they are learning about in school. These projects will be celebrated in assembly.

Special Educational Needs SEN covers emotional needs, communication and interaction needs, cognition needs, fine motor needs, working memory needs, speech and language needs and physical needs. If we have concerns, we will speak to you. We will meet and discuss shared aims and how best we can work together to help your child reach their potential. From time to time, external agencies may need to be involved. In this instance, we will always seek your permission.

How to get hold of us If you have anything you would like to discuss, feel free to grab me at the beginning or end of the day. If you would like a longer meeting we can arrange a time to suit. If your child is going home with some one else ( grandparent, family friend, another child) please write it on the board on the parent’s board. School gate opens at 8.40 and all children need to be in school by Formal learning starts at At the end of the day I will be stood with children just outside the door on the playground. To improve independence, please allow your child to come in to class, put away their possessions and sit down, without you. Unless you need to speak to me or write something on the parent’s board.

Key Dates 21/9 New Parents Reading Workshop 26/9 Prayer Spaces 5/10 Calculation workshop- a repeat of the summer term workshops on addition, calculation, multiplication and division. 24/10 Half Term
