Why is Mark Zuckerberg famous? Marks’ early life Zuckerberg was born in 1984 in White Plains, New York. He and his three sisters were brought up in Dobbs Ferry, a small town about 10 miles north of New York City. Zuckerberg was raised Jewish and had his « bar mitzvah» (a jewish ritual) when he turned 13. Afterward, he became an atheist.

At Ardsley High School He excelled in classics. He won prizes in science (math, astronomy and physics) and classical studies. He could read and write French, Hebrew, Latin, and ancient Greek. He was able to recite lines from epic poems such as the Iliad. He was captain of the fencing team.

His first computer applications When he was about 12, he created a messaging program he named « Zucknet. » Together with his friends, he also created computer games just for fun. He created an early version of a music software, which he called « Synapse ». Several companies like Microsoft—expressed an interest in buying the software, and hiring the teenager before graduation. He declined the offers.
