English Settlements Unique Features:  Wood frame forms part of the outside wall  Between the beams is filled with plaster  Huge chimney serving one+ fireplaces  Roof – thatch, shingles, or clapboards  Small windows Half-Timbered House

English Settlements Unique Features:  Simple Rectangular Design  Central Chimney  Roof- Pitched, Gable, Gambrel Cape Cod

English Settlements Unique Features:  2 story  Roof- pitched, long slope Saltbox

English Settlements Unique Features:  Second story overhangs  Originated on forts to prevent attackers from scaling the walls Garrsion House

Spanish Settlements Unique Features:  Rectangular with balconies that faced the street  Kitchens separated from the rest of the house  Roofs- flat or red tile  Often made of Stucco  Round archways and windows

Mid 20 th Century - Today Unique Features:  Offers the space of a ranch without all the land  3 levels of living space, connected by short flights of stairs  Horizontal lines, low pitched roof Split-Level

Mid 20 th Century - Today Unique Features:  Combination of steeply pitched shed roofs, many slopes at different angles and face different directions  Exterior- usually wood shingles, or board siding  Hidden entrance  Small, asymmetrically placed windows Shed Style
