Presentation to the Faculty June 8, 2016

 Real salary increases in addition to enrollment incentives (some added to base).  Changes to health benefits that address both immediate faculty concerns (pharmacy coverage). as well as concerns for future premium increases without shifting all of the costs to the faculty.  No changes to the 403-b.

 Language about 4 days a week, eight hours a day is gone. The new language is more respectful of faculty.  Reduced office hours (from 6 to 4).  Online courses can have online office hours.  Faculty on reduced load can have reduced office hours.

Increased  promotion increments.  number of sabbaticals.  minimum salaries.  senior adjunct lines.  funding for conferences and research.  compensation for independent study.  parental release time.  employment security for full time non-tenure track and senior adjuncts.  Rights of faculty who develop online courses/materials.

 Faculty of General Studies are now protected by the contract.  Student course evaluations will no longer be required in peer review process.  Candidates for reappointment, promotion and tenure will be given copies of all reports.

 Increased the number of non-tenure track lines (clinical, lecturers and visiting).  The current number of tenured/tenured track faculty is set as minimum for life of contract.  Limits differ across units  New limits consistent with current practices and wishes of tenure track within units  UPRCs retain the right to establish the qualifications for each category

 Student course evaluations to be posted on the intranet.  Administration willing to work with Senate to address issues relates to reliability and validity and adverse impact on minority faculty of current evaluations  Aggregated data will be presented with disclaimer that attempts to address some of the problems with course evaluations.

Across-the-board increases to base salaries:  9/1/2016: 2.25% (by average in rank)  9/1/2017: 2.25% (by average in rank)  9/1/2018: 2.5% (by individual salary)  9/1/2019: 2.5% (by individual salary)  9/1/2020: 2.75% (by individual salary)

 Assistant Professors = $2,001  Associate Professors = $2,347  Full Professors = $3,117 * These numbers are approximate and are subject to minor changes. Visiting Faculty and Lecturers are included with Assistant Professors; Clinical Faculty are included with either Assistant or Associate depending on rank and Senior Lecturers are included with Associates.

 Assistant Professors =$2,051  Associate Professors = $2,401  Full Professors = $3,190 *These numbers are an estimate based on the current faculty census. The actual number will be calculated from the faculty employed on 8/31/2017.

If enrollments reach the following targets (in May of the corresponding year) faculty will receive the following additional compensation: 2016: 7,550 - $500 (to be paid in May, 2018) 2017: 7,700 - $500 (to be paid in May, 2018) 2018: 7,850 - $750 ($500 to be added to base) 2019: 8,075 - $1,250 ($1,000 added to base) 2020: 8,300 - $1,500 (1,000 added to base)

 403-b language remains unchanged  Compensation for Independent Study will increase from $100 to $200 per student, per credit.  Promotion Increments will increase from $3,000 to $4,000 for Associate Professors and from $5,000 to $6,500 for Full Professors.

 Emblem Health (HMO): No change  Standard PPO, High PPO and WRAP now have a deductible AND an employer-funded health reimbursement account (HRA).  Changes in co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles, and out-of-pocket maximums are based on CUPA averages.  Pharmacy network will be restored to previous broader group.

 Funding for presenting at conferences (Provost’s Fund) is doubled.  $750 minimum for domestic conferences.  $1,500 minimum for international conferences.  First year faculty will be funded for networking.  Additional Research Support  Reimbursement for fees paid in connection with publication or other expenses directly related to scholarship/research.

 Faculty who have a child (through birth or adoption) shall receive 6 credits (increased from 3) of parental release time.  Increase in the number of half-year sabbaticals (was between 4% and 8%) to between 5% and 8% of the tenured faculty.

 Faculty are expected to spend three days on an Adelphi campus and are required to hold 4 office hours (reduced from 6) a week.  Library faculty workload language is more respectful of their professional status.  Social Work Field Supervision reduced from 15 to 10 students for 3 credits.

 School of Education faculty supervising in one- year residency or internship student teaching will earn one credit per student per semester.  Faculty who supervise laboratories will be compensated according to the number of labs they supervise.  Computer Science labs have been added to the language on lab credits.

 Faculty will no longer be required to include student course evaluations into they peer review portfolios for reappointment, promotion or tenure.  Candidates undergoing review for reappointment, promotion or tenure will be given all of the various reports that are issued in relation to their case (UPRC, Chairs, Deans, etc.) during the process.

 The University can appoint non-tenure track faculty (while keeping a minimum of 290 tenure-track faculty) in the following manner:  Nursing: Up to 70% of the full-time faculty.  All other Professional Schools: Up to 20% of the full-time faculty in each unit.  College of A & S: Up to 15% of the full time faculty in the College.

 All student course evaluations (aggregate data) will be available on the intranet with the following disclaimer: “These data were collected anonymously from students and do not necessarily reflect the perspective of the faculty and Administration of Adelphi University. For courses with a small number of student respondents, the results may not be representative of the perspective of a majority of the class.”
