SESSION PLAN PRESENTATION Transition: Ball possession Opponent > Ball Possession : Make field as big as possible, immediate transition into BP positions. SESSION PLAN PRESENTATION

Football Problem When we win possession we need to be quicker in putting opponent under pressure by transitioning to BP asap. Can we hurt them by making the field bigger & getting players & the ball forward quickly whilst they are still disorganized. Can we then get ball & player/s into goal scoring area.

Objectives of the Session Today I aim to improve…. The speed of transition into Ball Possession positions. Can we have forward movement, forward passing when we win possession. Can we keep the ball & make the field bigger.

Positioning Can I get into a position where I can receive the ball? Away from my opponent In between defenders In between the defensive lines Where I can see & play forward Where I can run with the ball Where I can shoot

Passing Practice Organization 15 Players in 2 teams of 7 plus a floater A grid from 6 yard box to halfway width of 18 yd box. balls bibs, cones. Setup: Both teams have 4 players in middle with blue player on 1 sideline & red on other sideline. Both teams have a bouncer at each end with red on left side of c/circle & blue on right. Their bouncer teammates at opposite end are setup diagonally. Both teams have a ball – start from opposite ends from a bouncer. Explanation/Progression Both teams pass their ball from end to end with minimal touches & avoiding other teams ball & players. Players who pass to side player or bouncer have to swap places with them & bouncer runs ball into field & passes it. With odd number of players (13,15,17) a spare player can be a passive defender at start then progress to intercepting passes for a point [ swap every 2 minutes ]. Var: 2 touch > 1 touch each foot > 1 touch only Observe: Positioning> Communication > 1st touch > passing Can progress to a Positioning Game by taking away 1 ball with BP team trying to play diagonally for 1 point each time they go end to end. Both teams pass their ball from end to end with minimal touches & avoiding other teams ball & players. Players who pass to side player or end bouncer have to swap places with them & bouncer runs ball into field & passes it. Var: 2 touch > 1 touch each foot > 1 touch only Observe: Positioning> Communication > 1st touch > passing Can progress to a Positioning Game by taking away 1 ball with BP team trying to play diagonally for 1 point each time they go end to end.

Positioning Game Organization 15 players in 3 teams. 2 grids 6 yard box to halfway width of 18 yd box, split through middle with 2m wide central zone, balls bibs, cones 5v5 in grids, with 4 bouncers around edges and another target player at further end. Starts from Coach playing in to one team 2/3 minutes then rotate bouncers. No offside Alt- Setup wide field halfway to 6 yard to encourage wide counter if that is problem or tactical preference Explanation/Progression BP Team: Must keep possession and make 5 passes then play ball to bouncer at far end of other grid. Play transitions into other grid with bouncers sliding along sides. BPO Team: stop other team from making 5 passes or intercept long pass . If win ball become BP team. Variations/Conditions: BP team-Limit 2 touch- - Allow ball to be run into other grid after 5 passes & passed to furthest bouncer. Team task: BP: can you make 5 passes & transition. BPO: can you win ball and keep it for 5 passes & transition Player Tasks: BP- Can you spread out when you win the ball & make field big as possible ( use all space in the grid). Can you transition to other grid with quick forward pass & quick forward movement. BPO- Can you put immediate pressure on the ball when you lose it or as it travels. Can you delay their passing/movement by closing down passing options & making field smaller. Coach’s Cues: As the ball is travelling can you anticipate the direction/quality of receiver's 1st touch. When we win the ball can we spread out with options left, right, far & middle. Repetitions of 1st touch, handling speed, passing speed & accuracy, with positioning to play forward in tight area 3 teams , 5v5 in one zone, 4 bouncers on sides/ ends with bouncer in middle zone, playing with BP team. If team makes 5 passes in one end zone they must play to bouncer on far end line then all players/side bouncers transition fwd make another 5 passes in other end zone then play back to original end line and repeat.

Game Training Organization 16 players 7 Red + GK v 7 Blue + server/target playing for both teams (Red 9/ Blue 6) Bibs, large goal, small goals, balls, cones Starting point: Play starts from red keeper, all players in red half except for sever/target man in other half. Prog: Coach can vary starting point or transition moment to test players awareness and highlight importance of the transition. Explanation/Progression BP Red team: Have less than 10 passes in their own half to get ball into other half. If they can, play then transitions into Blue half & Red try & score through 1 of the 2 small goals in less than 5 passes. If they don’t achieve this coach throws ball to blue team for immediate transition to BP, or if Blue pinch ball during Red buildup then immediate transition moment. BPO Blue team: Try to win ball from Reds or force transition moment as above, immediately counter-attack when you gain possession. If Red team are in Blue half with ball highest Blue defender should be approx in line with witches hats just over ½ way. Team Task: Blue: BPO>BP Force transition moment & immediately counter by making the field as big as possible to encourge quick forward passing/movement Player Tasks: 6/8: Can you take your 1st touch forward and play a killer pass between the defenders. Can you play to one of your strikers for their attacking run Can you play a ball into the feet of the 9 if he shows for the ball Can you keep good width across park so we can switch point of attack. Can you play a ball into front foot of 7/11 if 2/5 have dropped off or not slid across. Can you bounce ball off 10 then angle of in support to create space to pass to 9, 7, 11. Can you play a chip pass over top of defence if they push high. Can you play a short pass to 9 or 10 in between the lines where they can turn and face forward

Game Training continued- Player Tasks - continued 9: Can you get high to create depth in attack . Can you see the moment when 6/8 are receiving ball and can look and play forward- your time to move for them Can you get in behind to receive ball Can you get on the outside shoulder of 3 or 4 and take your 1st touch forward into space when you receive a ball. Can you play the ball in behind for 7,11. Can you bounce ball back to 10 if you cant play forward Can you play a wall pass with 10 or 7,11 to get in behind Can you play a takeover with 10 to get him in behind. Can you see 10 and the 7 or 11 when you are receiving the ball. Can you position yourself to support 10 if he receives ball. 10. Can you get quickly between the lines and receive the ball facing the goal. Can you get in a position to support the 9 when he receives ball Can you explode in behind defence to receive ball if 9 can play forward with 1st touch. Can you play ball in behind for 7,11 if 9 bounces ball back to you. Can you stepover ball and let it travel through to 9 if you know he is directly behind you. 7/11. Can you get wide if ball is on your side of pitch and drag defender away to create space inside. Can you carry ball in behind around defender in wide area if he drops off and leaves you space.(1v1) Can you run in behind defender to receive ball if he gets too tight or square. Can you make run into space at right time to support 9 & 10 when they receive ball. Can you get on the outside shoulder of defender and take 1st touch forward in wide areas.

Game Training continued Coach’s Cues: 6/8: if you are being closed down can you switch ball to other side quickly so we can play ball forward. If they are defending compact centrally can you split and get on outside of your marker to create angle where you can pass around them rather than through them. If defence drop off can you travel with ball and draw defender before slipping a pass to player further forward. If defender doesn’t stay with you can you continue your run and get ball back in behind. If 9 is on outside of 3 or 4 can you pass the ball where he can take 1st touch forward. If 9 is not able to take 1st touch forward can you pass it where he can play the ball to 10. If 9 is closed down and cant play forward or to 10 can you position yourself where he can play it back to you. 9: If 3 & 4 both mark you tight can you drag them to one side to create space on other side, or can you bring them away by showing toward midfield for ball to create space in behind. If they mark you tight can you drop ball in to 10 then explode in behind for return pass ( speed of pass) If you come toward ball to receive pass and 3 / 4 don’t stick tight can you turn and shoot or run with ball (speed of pass) If your 10 receives ball on inside channel of their 3 can you move to receive ball on inside of their 4 to block him from the ball and allow you to explode in behind or play wall pass with 10. If 6/8 are receiving ball and can’t look and play fwd then you will not be played in, when they can look and pass forward is when you 9 must come to life and make some movement for them. 9/10: When 9/10 receives ball can you position yourself so he can play you with his 1st touch. (Is the wall pass on) 10: as ball travels try to adjust your position to look forward and see 9, goal and 7 or 11 and the ball. 7,9,11. if you see 6 or 8 with comfortable possession facing forward can you make a run in behind defence for killer pass. 7/11: If ball is wide on opposite flank can you travel quickly into box at the right moment to support or get into goal scoring area as ball is played in.

Training Game Organization 16 players 7 Red + GK v 7 Blue + server/target playing for both teams (Red 9/ Blue 6) Bibs, large goal, small goals, balls, cones Starting point: Play starts from red keeper, all players in red half except for sever/target man in other half. Prog: Coach can vary starting point or transition moment to test players awareness and highlight importance of the transition. Explanation/Progression BP Red team: Keep possession and buildup to score through one of 3 small goals across width of pitch in Blue defensive midfield area. BPO Blue team: Try to win ball from Reds and force transition moment as above, immediately counter-attack when you gain possession. If Red team are in Blue half with ball highest Blue defender should be approx in line with witches hats just over ½ way.
