Bellybuttons The Long Awaited Survey Mike is Awesome! Andrea and Bryant

Defining our Variables Population The educators of Juab High School Procedure We took a survey to every teacher and asked them to fill it out. We returned later to pick it up. Using the random number generator we randomly selected half of the teachers to take a biased survey. Bias We used wording to bias our surveys.

Purpose We want to prove through statistics that Mike Spencer is not the only one suffering from Omphalophobia. (Fear of Bellybuttons.)

The Questions Non Biased Survey Which best describes how it makes you feel when someone accidently touches you? Angry Awkward Funny Happy Which best describes how it makes you feel when someone purposefully touches you? Angry Awkward Funny Happy Which best describes how you feel when someone touches your bellybutton? Which best describes how you feel about touching your own bellybutton?

The Questions Biased Survey How do you feel when someone accidentally touches you? Angry Awkward Funny Happy How do you feel when someone touches you on purpose? Angry Awkward Funny Happy Does it creep you out when people touch your bellybutton? Yes No Are you okay with touching your own bellybutton?

Analysis We found that no one likes anyone else to touch their bellybutton. In our nonbiased survey 33.3% said they didn't like touching their own bellybutton. In the biased survey 26.7% responded that they don't touch their own bellybutton. Only one person refused to fill out the survey.

Graphs

What did we learn? Besides that bellybuttons actually have their own phobia, we learned a lot about surveys. We learned that while general questions are good, they can sometimes be too general and confuse those taking the survey. We had a very good response rate, only one person didn't fill it out.

Funny Responses Q: Does it creep you out when people touch your bellybutton? A: I would hurt them! Q: How do you feel when someone touches you on purpose? A: Are they being nice? or slapping me? Q: Which best describes how you feel about touching your own bellybutton? A: No emotion A: None A: Normal A: I try to avoid that. Someone even added a question of their own and answered it for us. Q: Which best describes how you feel about these questions? Angry Awkward Funny Happy A: All of the above!
