Simulation: Importing Simulation setup from Inventor

© 2016 Autodesk Design Academy Editing Non-Native Geometry Benefits of performing preliminary finite element analyses within a CAD application Benefits of importing constraints, loads, and contact types from CAD models How to apply loads and constraints in Autodesk ® Inventor ® for use in Autodesk ® Simulation Mechanical How to alter Inventor parameters within Simulation Mechanical In this Module you will learn:

© 2016 Autodesk Design Academy Editing Non-Native Geometry Overview Many CAD packages have built-in FEA tools for preliminary design analysis purposes. Depending on the combination of software being used, it is possible to import many parameters from the CAD analysis into the FEA simulation: Loads and boundary conditions Contact types Meshing parameters and element types

© 2016 Autodesk Design Academy Editing Non-Native Geometry Overview continued It is very efficient to setup a preliminary analysis within the CAD system and to not duplicate efforts by importing this setup into a higher-level FEA program for further analysis. Baseline analysis performed natively in the CAD tool, can avoid multiple design iterations within the FEA software.

© 2016 Autodesk Design Academy Editing Non-Native Geometry Loads & Boundary Conditions Many load types available in Autodesk® Simulation Mechanical, such as surface forces, surface pressures, and point loads, are also available in CAD analysis packages. Boundary conditions, such as fixed and sliding contacts are also present in CAD analysis packages. All of the above can be set in Autodesk ® Inventor ® and later imported into Autodesk ® Simulation Mechanical for further setup and analysis.

© 2016 Autodesk Design Academy Editing Non-Native Geometry CAD Model Modifications Surfaces can be split within the native CAD package or Autodesk® SimStudio Tools to accommodate analysis. Use this capability to confine loads or constraints to a portion of a larger face or to produce edges at desired locations. Yoke imported from Inventor to Simulation Mechanical with mesh setting, loads, and boundary conditions Split Face in Autodesk® SimStudio Tools

© 2016 Autodesk Design Academy Editing Non-Native Geometry Summary Benefits of performing preliminary finite element analyses within a CAD application Benefits of importing constraints, loads, and contact types from CAD models How to apply constraints and loads in Autodesk ® Inventor ® for use in Autodesk ® Simulation Mechanical How to alter Inventor parameters within Simulation Mechanical Video Part A demonstrates setting up and solving a preliminary static stress analysis within Inventor. Video Part B demonstrates how to import parameters from your CAD models (including mesh settings, loads, and constraints) and how to modify Inventor parameters from within Simulation Mechanical. It also points out a difference between the two programs that might affect the required constraints.
