Health Partnerships Division Caring for Carers

What We Know…  Approximately 5.8 million people providing unpaid care in England and Wales, representing just over one tenth of the population. The figure has grown by 600,000 since  An increase in the number of carers in the last decade by 7,517 across Nottinghamshire County.  That over 54% of the caring population in Nottinghamshire are in employment. Of those carers providing 50+ hours of caring per week, 27% are in employment.

What We Understand…  People performing a role usually best understand it.  Talking to carers can often give us information about the services we provide that we could not get in any other way.  They are our key partners and can frequently become patients themselves when unsupported.  All recent legislation on health and social care emphasises the need to involve users and carers in the planning and development of services.

Where We are Now …  Divisional Carers Lead  Quarterly Generic Carers Survey  Ongoing EOL Carers survey (Based on National VOICES)  Carer Awareness Training  Carers Toolkit & Signposting Guide  Triangle of Care

Our Pledge, Our Plea…  Our Pledge – carers are key and important partners in our care provision and we pledge to ensure they are supported as individuals as well as care givers  Our Plea – to ensure this is not a tick box exercise, carers are individuals, they are mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, children

Quotes from a Recent Survey…  Show real concern and my father in his time of need. Dignity towards the end of his life Care with a smile and a sense of humour (John Proctor Ward, Lings Bar Hospital  We do like the way that you liaise with us (the caring family) Thank you (Locality 3 Carlton )  Everything is done brilliantly. All interventions were planned using a wide range of expertise and very suitable for the client's condition. Considerable improvement has been made. I am extremely grateful to Sally. (Integrated care team (Newark & Trent))
