What We Know… Approximately 5.8 million people providing unpaid care in England and Wales, representing just over one tenth of the population. The figure has grown by 600,000 since An increase in the number of carers in the last decade by 7,517 across Nottinghamshire County. That over 54% of the caring population in Nottinghamshire are in employment. Of those carers providing 50+ hours of caring per week, 27% are in employment.
What We Understand… People performing a role usually best understand it. Talking to carers can often give us information about the services we provide that we could not get in any other way. They are our key partners and can frequently become patients themselves when unsupported. All recent legislation on health and social care emphasises the need to involve users and carers in the planning and development of services.
