Legislative determination of CSI Main duties and responsibilities of CSI are embedded in The Czech Republic Codes Act. No.561 (2004) on Pre-school, Basic, Secondary Tertiary Professional and Other Education (The Education Act) CSI - administrative authority with nation-wide powers, organisational unit of the state CSI - divided in terms of organisation into the head office with its registered seat in Prague and offices of the Czech School Inspectorate. CSI - headed by the Chief School Inspector - appointed and dismissed in accordance with the provisions of the Act on Civil Service.

Competences of CSI CSI shall draw up strategic objectives for inspection activities and systems for evaluating the educational system (on regional and national level) CSI at schools and school facilities registred in the Register of Educational Facilities, shall, within its inspection: a ) acquire and analyse information on the education of pupils, on the activities of schools and school facilities, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the educational system (thematic report) b) identify and assess the conditions, course and results of education according to relevant school educational programmes (inspection report) c) identify and assess to what extent the school educational programme is met and whether it is in compliance with legal regulations and the framework educational programme (inspection report) d) performs the state control of compliance with legislation (protocol) e) perform a public-legal audit focused on the use of funds allocated from the state budget (protocol) Inspection activities are carried out also on the basis of suggestions, complaints and petitions.
