How does Book Trust work?

What does it mean for our students? Students get to pick out up to $7 of books each month of the school year. Choice Teachers make class time every month to celebrate the arrival of books and promote the culture of reading in their classrooms. Classroom Culture of Literacy Students take their books home and build their own home library. Families engage in reading! Family Engagement

Why is this crucial to your child’s education? Choice and anticipation help increase student engagement and motivation for students around reading. Choice Research shows that the act of celebrating books and reading is central to making reading fun and enjoyable for all students. Classroom Culture of Literacy Research shows that reading for at least 20 minutes a night pays dividends in a child’s education Family Engagement

What does this mean for your family? Free books will be coming home! Your child will be more motivated to read. A home library will continue to build as each month passes. Action Step: Read the Book Trust books with your child. Action Step: Celebrate the arrival of new books at home.

What process will your child engage in? STEP ONE  Book Trust Manager and Teachers implement the Book Trust Program  Teachers pass out Scholastic fliers  Students choose up to $7.00 of books  Look for “just right” books
