WHAT IS “Cree Youth Strategic Action Plan”? CNYC has taken up the challenge and has developed a Cree Youth Strategic Action Plan ; that describes a mission for CNYC, in which established priorities for programming, services and projects for the Cree Youth. Priorities were set through the surveying/questionnaire from the Consultation Tour in December/January, gathering the Youth opinion and documenting their feedback

Six Priorities for Cree Youth; by order 1)Education and Support, and Career Development 2)Health and Active Living 3)Culture and Traditions 4)Business and Employment 5)Social and Personal Development 6)Citizenship and Participation

Education and Support, and Career Development Post-Secondary Bursary Program Project Description: These bursaries are created to give some incentive to post-secondary students to not only get their education in post-secondary but to succeed with high achievements. We’d work closely with CSB criteria like for sponsorship (75% passing grade). We believe this program will foster more Cree student to succeed and increase the graduation rate in post-secondary studies for Cree Youth and an extra incentive that could assist in education and life expenses. Motivational Gathering for Post-Secondary Students Project Description: An annual visitation to post-secondary students whom are furthering their education. This would be a time to encourage and support our Cree Students who left home. A formal gathering providing Cree entertainment, a dinner and gifts to assist with their studies. Health and Active Living Cree Health Conference Project Description: An annual Cree Health Conference that will bring in professionals for workshops and presentations in Mental, Physical, Emotional and Spiritual healing. The conference will also concentrate on certain topics like suicide prevention, drugs, alcohol, nutrition and healthy active living. The Cree Nation is in dire need on change especially on our health. This conference will be the vehicle to start influencing and inspiring Cree’s to make that difference. CULTURE and TRADITIONS Traditional Lifestyles program Project Description: A program that will teach youth various of functions of a traditional lifestyle like; Camp preparation, hunting, trapping, fishing, cleaning & preparation of game, tanning of hides, tree identification, storytelling and making traditional apparel. The main component for the project is Youth to live in the bush with elders for several weeks. The elder’s would become the teachers and mentors of the Youth. Criteria and polices administered by CNG & CNYC. Youth involvement in Economic Development is the key to bring the Cree Nation to the economy needed. As our First Nations populations grow at a faster rate than anyone else.
