Welcome to the Hough/Lachler Team 6 th Grade

About Mrs. Hough This is my 20 th year of teaching. I graduated from Gardner-Webb University with a master’s degree in Language Arts education; I also did my undergraduate work at Gardner-Webb. I am married and have 2 sons, Daniel (19) and Andrew (16). My husband also works in education. I have one dog named Jazzy.

About Ms. Lachler *This is my 12 th year teaching 6 th grade. *I have a Bachelor’s dual degree in Resource Mgt. and Forest Biology *I have had various careers before teaching; including working for the U.S. Forest Service, teaching outdoor education, and being a paramedic. * Some of my hobbies include running and geocaching. * I have 2 cats, Simba and Sabrina

Class Expectations Be in class on time with materials ready Be kind and respectful of others with actions and words Follow directions the first time given and listen attentively Work quietly, stay on task and do not disrupt others Take responsibility for your actions

Homework Expectations Language Arts: Read at least 80 minutes every week. Math homework will be daily to include practice worksheets. Science notes should be studied every night and unfinished class work/projects should be completed as necessary. Social Studies: Most homework will be unfinished class work or projects if needed. Behavior Management In order to maintain a safe environment that promotes learning, we must follow the class rules. If any of the rules are broken, your child may receive one or more the following consequences. Warning If behavior continues, consequences may include: Teacher conference, behavior reflection sheet, loss of privileges, lunch detention, loss of free time, after school detention, Parent contact, office referral **Student will be referred to the office in cases of severe misbehavior

Key Units of Study Math: Connected Math- Students are led into deeper levels of thinking with all areas of math. Science: Plants, Lithosphere, Energy and Solar System Language Arts: Students will be challenged to learn in all areas of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and studying. Social Studies: Students will study the ancient world from a geographic, historical and cultural perspective. Technology: All subjects will integrate technology in particular units throughout the school year in an effort to prepare to succeed in the 21 st century.

Supplies Math/Science: 1 spiral 3 subject composition books 1 bound composition book Loose leaf notebook paper Pencils with eraser and sharpener (or extra lead) TI 30X IIS Calculator Index cards and colored pencils (optional) Language Arts/Social Studies 2 Bound Composition books (not spiral) Loose leaf notebook paper Pencils with erasers Large 3-ring notebook with page dividers to be used in all classes.
