Isaiah 7:14 14 "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Isaiah 40:9 9 O Zion, You who bring good tidings, Get up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, You who bring good tidings, Lift up your voice with strength, Lift it up, be not afraid; Say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!" Isaiah 60:1 Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you.
A Season of Terror Vs. 1-9 (II Chron. 28) Vs. 4 – 2 imperatives Restrain yourself outwardly Calm your mind inwardly Vs. 5-9 – Great prophecy about the enemy’s plans and future The Lord was in charge. But if Judah would not hold fast to its God it would lose its fast hold of its country.
The Sign - Ask a sign Vs Was Ahaz silent? – a secret alliance in the works? But God is gracious Sign - something serving as a pledge of the divine certainty of something else. A visible miracle A predicted future event – not foreseen. The virgin – Double ref. – foreshadowing – typology! Near or partial fulfilment One of the king’s wives? Maybe Abijah – the mother of Hezekiah! Far and primary fulfillment - the Messiah! The Messiah is mentioned again: Ch. 9 – actually born Ch. 11 – reigning
This sign was finally fulfilled in the birth of Christ. He is the Messiah of Isa. 7:14. The core or crux of His coming is found in this verse! We know this was the primary and final fulfillment because of the careful wording of Matt. 1:22,23 Matthew 1: So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."
