Felicity Prayer Loving God In this year of felicity may we act from love not fear, serving one another with humility, humanity, and humour. With cheerful minds and grateful hearts, may our inner joy flourish as we grow in loving acceptance of ourselves and others. As we move through the journey of life, may we give thanks for the blessings on our Loreto community, recognising your loving presence in all our relationships. And where love is hidden, may we find the courage to bring love, for felicity belongs to the open minded and generous hearted.

Format for the evening 1.Senior Secondary school pathways offered at Loreto College. 2.Transition and decision making process for Year 10 girls going into VCE Yr 11 in Subject selection applications. 4.Mentor meetings with students and parents/guardians. 5.Career expos. 6.What is an ATAR? VCAA rules and procedures by Mr Wilson. 7.Loreto VCE staff available in the foyer to answer specific subject questions.

Senior (Years 11 & 12) Secondary options at Loreto College Three possible pathways : VCE – Victorian Certificate of Education VCAL – Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning VET – Vocational Education and Training or a combinations of these.

The VCE as a course of study Generally taken over two years. In Year 11 students complete Units 1 and 2, In Yr. 12 Units 3 & 4 are sequential Most students who complete their VCE and sit the final year exams will achieve an ATAR score. (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) Mr. Wilson will explain this soon.

Successful completion of the VCE In Year 11 girls will study:In Year 12 girls will study: Religious Education Religious Education English or Literature or English Language English or Literature or Language Plus 5 subjectsPlus 4 subjects Some VET units can be included in VCE. Applications will be judged on whether the student has demonstrated a high level of academic progress, completion of home study tasks, strong work ethic and consistent ability to meet due dates.

To achieve a Victorian Certificate of Education: Students must successfully complete:  16 VCE units over 2 years  3 out 4 English Units  demonstrate their satisfactory understanding of the learning outcomes through School Assessment Course (SACs) tasks like tests, Folios, assignments etc.  As well as regular attendance to classes.  Mr. Wilson will provide more explanation on this soon.

What is VCAL? Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning For students focused on vocational pathways Applied learning Different pathway Requires a VET subject compulsory 2 yr. commitment. 3 levels: Foundation, Intermediate and Senior 4 strands: Literacy, Numeracy, Work Related Skills and Personal Development

VCAL – Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning. Different pathways to further education and/or the workplace For students who learn more by hands on activities, doing projects, creating folios, completing work placements. Students must apply to enter the VCAL program, Mrs. Anderson is the VCAL coordinator, who will hold an information session at lunchtime next week. Usually our VCAL girls complete a combination of VCE subjects, VCAL and one VET subject.

VET (Vocational Education and Training) Practically oriented subjects that provide a VCE Unit 1– 4 and an industry accredited TAFE Certificate Must do work placement Most are offered off-site, usually at Fed Uni or other schools examples of VET subjects on offer are: Music Technology Information Technology & Digital Media Sport and Recreation Community Services

VET Subjects Scored VET studies contribute towards VCE and ATAR score. Can be part of VCE or VCAL program. Can mean classes or work placement out of school hours. May mean having to catch up on missed classes. Can be taken as a SBA (School based apprenticeship). Must see Ms Scott

Things to consider about subject selection. What do I see myself doing in the future? What subjects am I good at and enjoy doing? Which subjects are ‘prerequisite’ studies for the tertiary/TAFE course I’m interested in? Which subjects are ‘recommended’ studies for the tertiary/TAFE course I’m interested in?

Don’t make choices based on: Who you think might be teaching the class Who you think might be in the class One subject will be “easier” than another
