Orientation: The Most Important Training You Will Provide the 4-H Volunteer “Organizational socialization is the process where employees learn about and adapt to new jobs, roles and the culture of the workplace.” (Klein and Weaver, 2000) It can be inferred that this holds true with new volunteer leaders in the 4-H program.

Orientation Preparation Create a welcoming atmosphere and let volunteers know that the 4-H office and staff are there to support them Don’t over do it! Orientation is only the beginning of trainings you should provide. Don’t lecture. Power Points are great but remember real learning will occur by active participation Remember to make it fun and allow time for socializing (4-H Club Leader Orientation Checklist)
