The Mission to Seafarers The world’s largest international Christian maritime welfare charity Mission society founded in 1856 Teams in 200 ports and 50 countries President HRH The Princess Royal Patron HM The Queen

Sea Sunday Sea Sunday is a day of prayer and celebration of life at sea Theme for 2016 The Mission to Seafarers’ 160 th anniversary – 1856 to 2016 Our inspirational Bible story The Good Samaritan Luke 10:29 Welfare support across 8 regions – Europe, Africa, The Gulf and India, East Asia, Oceania, Australia, Canada and USA

Our Work In Australia The Revd. Ian McGilvray,Port Dampier. This is a very remote port in the boiling heat of Western Australia. There are hundreds of ships calling every month. A busy daily programme, consisting of ship visiting, hospital visiting and running the Centre.

Our Founder: The Revd John Ashley In 1856 the world looked very different from today, but it was in that year that our founder, the Revd John Ashley, changed the course of history. Standing on the coast, looking out over the Bristol Channel, he saw hundreds of sailing ships at anchor far from shore. He devoted his life to preaching the Good News of Jesus to those at sea. Today the legacy of Ashley’s visionary work with seafarers continues with vigour, dedication and energy. Over 100 ordained and lay chaplains are funded by the Mission, and work alongside thousands of dedicated ship-visiting and Flying Angel Centre volunteers, bringing working crews support, friendship and love. This work is mostly unsung and unseen, yet it still flourishes across the worldwide Anglican Communion in 200 ports in over 50 countries.

Seafarers and their families are at the heart of everything we do Approximately 1.5 million men and women work at sea. A seafarer’s life is often dangerous and lonely. But with your vital help it doesn’t have to be friendless and without hope. You can be a neighbour to crews in need everywhere. Please pray for seafarers and their families on Sea Sunday and make a donation to the work of The Mission to Seafarers.

What your support could mean $10 could provide a Bible in translation to a Chinese or Filipino seafarer $50 could provide a counselling session for a bereaved seafarer $100 could help run one of our 118 Flying Angel Seafarers’ Centres $500 could fund a new Seafarers’ Families’ Support Project for a week
