Good Morning 9/28/2016 Starter What is a nuclear reaction? Today we will be… Learning about Nuclear Reactions in general and diving in to the details of one of the two types tomorrow we will learn about the other. We will have gradesheets tomorrow anyone who was absent on Friday need to make up the test! There are two types can anyone tell me what they are?

Most of us have never seen what a real Fusion Reactor looks like but the movies have given us some pretty cool but all together inaccurate ideas of what fusion is.

According to Doc Brown someday we will all have our own Fusion Reactors.

Fusion

What does Fusion really look like? And Why don’t we use that? Video News Link Visual of what is going on in a Fusion Reactor.Visual of what is going on in a Fusion Reactor.

Fusion What is It? Fusion is the is the fusing of two nuclei into one nucleus. It is a wonderful thing and may be the energy source of the future, we will talk more about that later. The other reason it is sweet is because you could not exist with out this.

How Elements Form in Stars Nuclear fusion, which occurs in stars on a huge scale, combines smaller nuclei into larger nuclei, creating heavier elements.

Now Nucleus C (form from A & B) can combine to make larger Nuclei.

What is the product of Nuclear Fusion? In our star and in the fusion reactors that we are trying to build Helium is created.

Sequencing As you watch the video try to answer these questions that are on your paper. Hydrogen nuclei fuse, forming __________ Helium nuclei fuse, forming___________ Fusion continues in smaller stars, forming elements up to _____________ Fusion in larger stars produces heavier elements up to ____________ The heaviest elements form during ________ explosions of the most massive stars.

Video on the formation of All elements through Fusion. Link

Sequencing Here are the answers if you didn’t get them. Hydrogen nuclei fuse, forming helium. Helium nuclei fuse, forming beryllium. Fusion continues in smaller stars, forming elements up to oxygen… Fusion in larger stars produces heavier elements up to iron. The heaviest elements form during supernova explosions of the most massive stars.
