Culture in Our Pockets What's on Korean paper money? Look closely, and you will find Korean history and culture. On three different bills, you will see great people and great things. Yi Hwang is on the front of the 1,000-won bill. He was a great scholar hundreds of years ago. The back of the bill shows a famous painting. Yi Hwang studied at a place in the painting. Another great scholar, Yi Yi, is on the front of the 5,000-won bill. You know him, don't you? The back of the bill shows a famous painting by his mother, Shin Saimdang. The 10,000-won bill tells stories about a famous king. On the front, you will see King Sejong. He invented Hangeul and did many other great things. King Sejong was great, wasn't he?
