BCĐT-ĐHN-NT1 3 Nuclear Power Development has been started in In 1996, the Government assigned the MOIT and MOST in collaboration with the related ministries and organizations to begin conducting studies on the introduction of the nuclear power into Viet Nam. The studies cover all topics related to NPP’s introduction into the country, including electricity demands and supply, economy, finance, technology, safety, radwaste management, nuclear law and regulation, site selection, manpower, public acceptance, international relations, etc. The obtained results showed that by 2020 Viet Nam will likely change from an energy export country into an energy import country; and Viet Nam should consider NPPs’ construction. 1. BCĐT-ĐHN-NT1 5 March 2002, The Steering Committee for Nuclear Power was established by Prime Minister. The Committee is composed of two main ministries MOI and MOST and some other members from various ministries. The main responsibilities of Steering Committee are: Establishing National Strategy and long term program for nuclear power development.
