SSH integration in climate action CARISMA project Noriko Fujiwara Centre for European Policy Studies Expert meeting on SSH in H2020 Brussels, 5 July, 2016

Interdisciplinary approaches Economics Political science International relations Legal analysis Policy studies Innovation studies Business administration Sociology Social psychology Technology assessment

Lessons from the project: Advantages Climate change mitigation requires interdisciplinary approaches. o Technologies o Policies o Governance & contexts Interdisciplinary approaches enable the consortium to o Set a wider perspective, o Go out of box, o Test new approaches, or o Develop synthesis

Lessons from the project: Disadvantages Even inside SSH, collaboration among partners from different disciplines could be challenging. Lack of understanding about each other’s methodologies Lack of acknowledgement that the other discipline can make valuable and complementary additions to the analysis We could address this challenge through, e.g. regular communications both in the proposal stage and in the implementation stage allocating sufficient time and resources to deal with any possible misunderstanding

Thank you for your attention
