The planets in the Solar System By: Virginia Speirs

The Solar System The solar system is made up of many different things There are 8 planets in our solar system

The Inner Planets The inner planets are the four planets closest to the sun. The inner planets are - Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. Mercury- completes its orbit around the sun every 88 days. Venus- has no moons. Earth- has an atmosphere made up of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% of other gases. Mars- like Earth, has seasons, polar ice caps, and weather. There is evidence on mars that there was once water and maybe even life!

The Outer Planets The outer planets are the five planets farthest from the sun. The outer planets are – Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Jupiter- is the biggest planet in our solar system. About 1400 earths can fit into Jupiter. Jupiter has 50 known moons. Saturn- is mostly made of hydrogen and helium. Its volume is 755 times greater than earth. Uranus- was discovered in 1781 by William Herschel it takes 84 earth years to complete one orbit. Neptune- takes 165 earth years to complete one orbit. It is nearly 4.5 kilometers from the sun. Pluto- discovered in From earth it takes 9 ½ years to get to Pluto.

70% of earth’s surface is water. 30% of earth’s surface is land. All of earths five oceans include: the Atlantic, the Pacific, the Indian, the Arctic, and the Southern Ocean The largest ocean is the pacific ocean. The smallest ocean is the arctic ocean. Earth’s Surface

Earth’s surface The human population on earth is approximately 7,039,101,305 as of September There are 196 countries on earth. Highest elevation on earth is Mt. Everest with 29,035 feet. Earth is 4.5 to 4.6 billion years old.

Mars’s Surface Scientist think that one of Mars's moons will one day crash into Mars. Mars orbits the sun every 687 earth days. Mars has the tallest volcano in he solar system, which is 15 miles high. That is 3 times taller than Mt. Everest! Mars is red because of all the iron-oxide and rust that is in the soil of the planet.

Mars’s Surface At its brightest, Mars outshines every other planet except Venus. Hundred pound man would weigh 38 pounds on mars. Valleys and canyons on mars prove that mars had once had water On winter nights on mars, the temperature can some times drop as low as -191 degrees

Curiosity is a car-sized rover sent out to mars for exploration in August of Curiosity is now on mars and has found many new facts for research on earth. The rover’s main mission is to find out if mars once had been, or ever will be, suitable for life. Curiosity

Things similar between Earth and Mars EarthMars Earth, like mars, is an inner planet. Earth is the 3 rd planet close to the sun. Mars, like earth, has seasons and polar ice caps.

The difference between Earth and Mars Earth Mars Earth has an atmosphere made of oxygen and nitrogen. Earth’s surface is 70% water and 30% land. Mars has a very thin atmosphere made up of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and argon. There is no water on mars, but there is evidence that there once was.

Conclusion I have learned a lot more about space and science by doing this project. I learned more about all of the planets in our solar system; especially Mars. I hope this presentation helped you learn more too!
