 Political Cartoon Analysis  Review if possible the results of yesterday’s quiz.  Concluded with Latin America and begin to examine Asia…  Think-Pair-Share  Quick-write  Basic Cornell Notes on Asia  Label a blank political map of Asia

 Students Shall:  Review the results of yesterday’s quiz.  Express in a KWL chart how much they know about Asia.  In a quick-write the students will list as many Asian cities and nations as they can think of.  Label a blank political map of Asia, including their capital cities.

 Complete this in your notebook.  Think about all the facts that you know about the continent of Asia, its people, sports, religions, history, economics.  Write down what you come up with.  Then when I tell you too, pair up with your neighbor and share with them and the class.

 How many Asian nations can you list in 5 minutes?  How many Asian cities can you list in 2 minutes?

 Return your Latin America timeline assignment.  Basic Cornell Notes on Asia  Add Geographic Setting, Geographic Themes, and Read to Discover from pages 550 and 551 into your notebook.  Arrange your seats into groups of 3 and answer the questions from chapter 27 beginning on textbook page 551.

Asia’ sheer size The continent of Asia is the world’s largest continent. Asia occupies 30% of the Earth’s land area and with over 4 billion people it contains more than 60% of the world’s population. Population Both China and India have more than 1 billion people each. Significance of the term ‘Asia’ The name ‘Asia’ is a European invention. Throughout history the different peoples and civilizations of the continent did not see themselves as a united people.

Eurasia or Europe and Asia? Some geographers say that Europe and Asia are one giant continent. Others follow the old tradition that they are separate. Cultural diversity Asia has diverse culture regions and landforms: Southwest Asia, most of Russia & the former Soviet Union, South Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. Diversity of landforms Asia being so large has forests, jungles, huge mountains, deserts, lakes, rivers and if near oceans.
