HOW TO TALK ABOUT BIRTHDAYS… C’est quand, ton anniversaire? (When is your birthday?)

Mon anniversaire est le deux mars. (My birthday is March second.)

A. TO EXPRESS A DATE IN FRENCH, THE FORMULA IS… le + Ex. – le le # Month décembre juillet

B. EXCEPTION - THE FIRST OF THE MONTH IS… le premier (1er) Use it express the first day of any month. Ex. -C’est le premier mai. (It’s May 1 st.)

C. IN FRONT OF ALL NUMBERS, EVEN THOSE THAT… begin with a vowel or silent “h,” the French use le and never l’ or any other article. Ex. – le onze le huit

D. CAN I WRITE THE DATE IN NUMERICAL FORM? Oui! When abbreviating dates in French, the day always comes first. Ex. - le deux août 2011 > 2/8/2011 le premier novembre 2011 > 1/11/2011

E. WHEN GIVING THE DAY OF THE WEEK WITH THE DATE… Put the day of the week first in your date expression. Ex. - C’est lundi le douze (12) octobre. (It is Monday, October 12 th.)

F. TO GIVE THE YEAR… Place the year at the end of your date expression -- Ex = deux mille 2001 =deux mille un 2005 = deux mille cinq

2025=deux mille vingt-cinq 2010 = deux mille dix 2011 = deux mille onze

PAR EXEMPLE… C’est mardi le seize (16) juillet deux mille onze (2011).

2013 ???

2013 = deux mille treize
