Dream Placement: What? A unique initiative designed to bring together bright young students from across Cumbria with some of the most forward-looking and successful businesses in the county in a week long placement scheme. Has gained the confidence of employers, schools and colleges and most importantly young people themselves. Now in its forth year, Dream Placement is established and continues to grow in both size and influence.

Dream Placement: Why? Following conversations with businesses about how to attract and retain talent. Showing young people the breadth of fantastic opportunities in the County so if they go away to study they may return to the area and also showing young people leadership in action and what they can aspire to in leadership roles across the County

Benefits to Students Exclusive to Cumbria Not just a simple work experience scheme Most valuable part of programme is the week-long placement The chance to see how the real world of business operates A unique opportunity to see how senior teams and leaders go about dealing with the challenges they face

More Benefits to Students Gives the Dream Placement candidates an often life-changing glimpse of careers that could be theirs The chance to develop leadership skills and build confidence Dream Placements can also lead to employment opportunities For every applicant: Even those who are not selected for a Dream Placement can benefit by receiving leadership development opportunities and support.

Benefits to Companies Helps connect and build relationships between schools, local businesses and local talent. Working with our corporate partners through fully project-managed scheme. Attract bright talent - high calibre applicants Network with senior leaders from other companies involved Well established programme High media profile

The Process

STEP 1 - Applications Local students aged send in applications to the Centre for Leadership Performance. CfLP reviews the applications and makes a short-list of students who will be invited to attend a selection event. Mon 20th June 2016 to Mon 24th Oct 2016

STEP 2 - The Selection Event The selection event is the first time that students and employers come together. During this day there are various activities, including speed- interviewing, which will help to match the students’ skills and aptitudes to the various employers. Although there is no guarantee that every shortlisted student will be placed with a host company, we work hard to place as many students as possible. The successful students are then allocated to the host companies and all are invited to the development day. Thurs 8th Dec 2016

STEP 3 - The Development Day The students get together with their host companies for a day of activities organised and facilitated by CfLP, such as goal setting and skills audits, to get everyone prepared for the placement week. Sat 28th Jan 2017

STEP 4 - Placement Week The Dream Placement takes place The exact programme of the week varies depending on the type of host company and the interest of the student but all will experience leadership in action and learn what Cumbria’s employers have to offer for capable and ambitious young people. Mon 20th to Fri 24th Feb 2017

STEP 5 - Showcase Event After the placement week the students and companies get together to celebrate what they have achieved and to share their experiences. Fri 24th March 2017

Dream Placement 2016 Nearly 40 companies offered placements More than 200 young people aged between 16 and 18 applied Around 100 students were selected to attend our selection day and 51 students won Dream Placements CiPD Cumbria Branch also held a development day and interview workshop for all students who applied CfLP keen to ensure that we work with our partners to create development opportunities for everyone who enters the scheme
