Traditional Club and Focused Group Club Understanding the differences between…

Main Difference Traditional Club –Children work on their own pace throughout their TruthBook. –Children may or may not be on the same doctrinal theme or unit as the main teaching lesson of the service. Focused Group Club –All children within the club are on the exact same unit(s) at the same time. –The main teaching lesson of the service is on the same unit(s) the children are studying.

Two Styles of Learning Traditional Club –Children work on their own pace. Traditional Club = Individual Study –Curriculum year length divided by 6 Doctrinal Themes – typically 6-8 weeks per theme. Focused Group Club –Children stay together learning at the same rate. –Curriculum takes longer to complete – typically weeks per theme. 10 weeks = Q&A only 12 weeks = Q&A + Review Units

Closer Look Traditional Club –6-8 weeks per doctrinal theme –Utilizes only some of the TTLPs –Workbook sections normally completed individually at home or during small group time. –2 year curriculum rotation –Great for children who comfortable memorizing scripture. Focused Group Club –10-12 weeks per doctrinal theme –Utilizes ALL of the TTLPs –Workbook sections done as a group or individually –3-4 year curriculum rotation –Great for bus ministry, Sunday School, children’s church, or combined service.

Advantages Traditional Club –Allows children to work at their own ability level –Similar to other club programs. –Fewer changes if coming out of another program Focused Group Club –Simplifies program –Streamlines things for parents with multiple children in the program. –Children know exactly how much to do each week.

Services Traditional Club –TruthTime Lesson –Small Group Time Recite Truths Work through TruthBooks –Discussion if desired –Choir or Activity Time –Award Time Focused Group Club –TruthTime Lesson –Small Group Time Recite Truth(s) Work on memorizing Truth(s) Discussion Time –Work through TruthBooks if desired –Choir or Activity Time –Award Time

Awards Traditional Club –Award Patches as recommended –Fewer Award Patches –No Awards – Use Progress Chart –Progress Charts –Incentives for each doctrinal theme Focused Group Club –Award Patches as recommended –Fewer Award Patches –No Awards – Use Progress Chart –Progress Charts –Incentives for each doctrinal theme Note: Since this club goes slower, some clubs choose easier method to earn awards so that children earn awards faster.

Student Curriculum Flexibility Traditional Club –TruthBooks –TruthBooks PLUS TruthCards –TruthCards Only Small Group Discussion Time TruthBook Portions –Downloadable TruthBooks Focused Group Club –TruthBooks –TruthBooks PLUS TruthCards –TruthCards Only Small Group Discussion Time over TruthBook Portions –Downloadable TruthBooks

Calendar Year Traditional Club –Number of weeks divided by 6 doctrinal themes = number of weeks you teach from each doctrinal theme. –Can limit time in each doctrinal theme to match where you are teaching.. Focused Group Club –Finish TruthBook in 1 year = 2 units per week. –1 unit per week 12 month club = 1.5 years to complete 9 – 10 month club = 2 years to complete. –TruthTime lesson is drawn from unit(s) studied that week.

Flexibility You can determine the length - Not us! Levels 2-4: Most churches cover 6 doctrinal themes during the year. Some churches choose to cover only 3 or 4 doctrinal themes during the year. Level 1: Most churches cover 12 doctrinal themes during the year. Some churches choose to cover only 6 doctrinal themes during the year to match the older levels. Number of weeks in curriculum year Number of doctrinal themes Number of weeks your ministry will cover each doctrinal theme

Conclusion How children learn –Own Pace verses Together What children will use –TruthBooks, TruthCards, Downloadables How fast you will study –Finish Book within curriculum year –Finish Book on own schedule
