Distance Learning Standards

DL Faculty Advisory Board AGC Standing Subcommittee Asked to lead the collaborative development of distance learning standards Will not impose standards or become the reviewing body (strictly advisory)

Higher Learning Commission (HLC) AQIP Quality Check-up Requires quality assurance oversight of distance education activities. HLC Change Visit Uniformity, Design, Continuous Improvement

Faculty Contract Compensation for new and existing online/hybrid courses “created in their entirety.” College retains “ownership of the course materials that were developed up the point the online or hybrid course is deemed to be complete and acceptable.”

Collaborative Process Conducted survey Shared results with stakeholders Seek feedback from AGC Seek approval of academic policy Assist with periodic review of standards

Survey Administration Sent and reminder to all faculty. Requested help with leading or participating. Used QM Rubric as a starting point, but encouraged other suggestions.

Survey Results Received 38 responses. Received 12 offers to assist/lead. Decided to first share results with DL FAB and 12 faculty who responded.

Next Steps AGC Table Discussion of Proposed Standards and Policy AGC Vote on Proposed Policy Implementation and Review

Proposed Policy All online and hybrid courses will adhere to the GRCC Distance Learning Standards. The Distance Learning Faculty Advisory Board will review these standards on an annual basis. The AGC will approve any recommended changes.
