ACNC – HERE TO STAY The Government announced on Friday 4 March 2016 the decision to retain the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

WHAT DOES THE ACNC DO? Registers charities Provides guidance and advice Requires charities to report yearly using the Annual Information Statement Maintains the ACNC Charity Register Takes compliance action where required Provides information to the ATO about charity entitlement to tax concessions Works across jurisdictions to develop a simplified reporting framework - report once use often via the Charity Passport

15 WHEN WILL ACNC REVOKE REGISTRATION? The Commissioner can revoke if: –Not entitled to registration – not a charity –False information provided –Non compliance with Act/regulations –Failure to lodge Annual Information Statement – double defaulter –Bankruptcy/Liquidation –Charity requested voluntary revocation Revocation of ACNC registration = Loss of entitlement to Cth tax concessions with ATO

16 WHEN IS MY ANNUAL INFORMATION STATEMENT DUE? There are two main reporting deadlines 31 December (extended to 31 January) each year for those reporting to a 30 June financial year end date 30 June each year for those using a 31 December financial year end date Check your Register entry under “Annual Reporting” to see your charity’s due date > acnc.gov.au/findacharity
