INTERNATIONAL SKILLS PARTNERSHIPS ADVANCED PROJECT JANUARY 2015 - APRIL 2016

INTRODUCTION In January 2015 Vuselela TVET College joined Orbit TVET College in the Advanced Partnerships Project. The project focuses on: Lecturer Development as well as whole organisation staff development and continuous professional development for non-academic staff and college leaders. Engineering lecturers with better artisan competencies, in support of the Decade of the Artisan agenda. Embedding a college-wide approach to enterprise, employability skills / soft skills and entrepreneurial spirit with a formal programme of activity which includes wider use of the Enterprise Passport. Lecturers Training Module for Embedding Enterprise, Employability and Entrepreneurship in the Curriculum.

The programme assists lecturers in their development and also forms part of the college intervention strategy. The project team prepared the lessons as indicated in the guidelines issued to them. The programme was offered during the second semester of 2015 and will continue in 2016.

LECTURER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

The ERD students will, under the supervision of their lecturers perform practical tasks, e.g. Pre-delivery inspection of a vehicle Service a vehicle Wheel balancing Use a jack, etc.

EMPLOYABILITY AND ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS Students need to be equipped with employability skills or soft skills and entrepreneurial skills that are necessary for economic growth, social development and sustainable employment.

ENTERPRISE PASSPORT The Enterprise Passport is a tool which will help you to develop your capacity for enterprise, innovation and initiative. The Enterprise Passport from the UK was adjusted to accommodate the students of Vuselela TVET College. The document will be completed by our students in the simulation room. The passport will also be extended to students doing practical experience at companies.

LECTURERS TRAINING MODULE The Edison Training Programme was introduced to our lecturers. The aim is to support lecturers to reflect and develop their own entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, thinking and attitude. This knowledge and skills will then be embedded and transferred to our students. Research shows that young people with entrepreneurial experience during their education are not only more likely to start their own businesses, but are employed faster too.
