Position-Time Graphs Physics Part 4

Position Position refers to the location of an object at one instant. It is always specified relative to a reference point (or origin). The net change in position relative to the origin is the displacement.

Position-Time Graphs Position is always on the y-axis (vertical). Time is always on the x-axis (horizontal).

Position-Time Graphs

What is happening during this graph? The person is in the positive direction of the reference point. Position is not changing as time passes. The person is staying in one place. A

What is happening during this graph? The person is in the negative direction of the reference point. Position is not changing as time passes. The person is staying in one place. B

What is happening during this graph? The person starts at the reference point. Person moves further from reference point in positive direction. The movement is constant. C

What is happening during this graph? The person starts at the reference point. Person moves further from reference point in negative direction. The movement is constant. D

What is happening during this graph? The person starts negative to the reference point. Person moves towards, then passes, then further from reference point in positive direction. The movement is constant. E

What is happening during this graph? The person moves away from reference point in positive direction, then moves back to the reference point. F

What is happening during this graph? The person moves away from reference point in positive direction, stops, then moves back to the reference point. G

Distance-Time Graph Distance is always on the y-axis. Time is always on the x-axis.

Distance-Time Graphs This graph shows a boat travelling through a long canal. The boat has to stop at locks for changes in water level. 1.How many stops does the boat make? 2.How far does the boat travel? 3 stops 100km
