Are you SMART?

SMART SafeMeetAcceptReliableTell Keep safe Be careful not to give out personal information such as your address, phone number, real name or password, when you are chatting or gaming on line. Never meet someone you have only been in touch with online without your parents’ or carers’ permission and even then only when they can be present. Online friends are still strangers. Never accept s, messages, or open files, images or texts from people you don’t know or trust – they may contain viruses or nasty messages! Is it reliable? Someone online might lie about who they are and information on the internet may not be true. Always check information by looking at other websites, in books, or with someone who knows. If you like chatting online it’s best to only chat to your real world friends and family. Tell a parent, carer or a trusted adult if someone, or something, makes you feel uncomfortable or worried, or if you or someone you know is being bullied online.

Hands up... At home, who has…? Who uses the Internet for…? Who chats to people online? Who thinks using the Internet is fun?

With great power comes great responsibility With great power comes great responsibility

On the playground... Who would stop a friend from joining a game? Who would say something mean? Who would spread lies about another child?

On the Internet... Who would stop a friend from joining a game? Who would say something mean? Who would spread lies about another child?

cyberbullying is bullying

all day every day

What can you do about it?

SHOCK BLOCK TELL If someone shocks you with mean words or threats… Block or ignore them. Write down when and what they said. Tell an adult you trust – a parent, a teacher or call ChildLine

REMEMBER Think before you type Once it’s on, it’s on forever With great power comes great responsibility With great power comes great responsibility
